I have often travelled to unusual places as part of my research and academic work. From industrial towns to cultural precincts, rural settlements to tribal hamlets, each have had something unique to offer. However, the most interesting part of these studies has been the people I encounter in these habitats.
Amongst those I observe, it is often the faces of the girl child that intrigue me the most.
Their curious expressions echo the many questions that seem to reside deep within them. Their stares and smiles make me aware of the invisible screen that separates the different worlds that we live in. Meeting these young women makes me wonder about the many worlds and worldviews they carry within them.
How do they look at the environment they are in and their place in it? Do they live in the moment or ponder over their tomorrows like kids their age? What kind of a future do they dream about?
Sharing some reflections of one such visit to a tribal settlement in Palghar, India.
